Goodbye Chowda. You Will Be Missed

From William Kristol over at The Weekly Standard, very good friend of the Hugh Hewitt show and a favorite fill in of his has passed away today. I always enjoyed reading Dean Barnett's blog posts here on Townhall when he co-blogged with Hugh and I followed him when he went over to The Weekly Standard blog. I'm sure Hugh will touch on this during his show today but I just wanted to put it out there that I will personally miss his humor and insightful analysis into the politics of the day. Chowda, you will be missed on the air and on the blogs.

Logan Act Violation

OK. I looked up the Logan act. It states the following.

§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments.
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

1 Stat. 613, January 30, 1799, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 953 (2004).

I don't think he violated the Logan Act by campaigning for Odinga. This is however, one more instance of questionable judgement.

On the subject of violating the Logan Act, Obama could and probably should be investigated for attempting to directly obstruct negotiations between the Iraqi government and the Bush Administration for political gain. Legislators are not diplomats unless designated so by the State Department. This pipe dream of investigating him will never come true for the pure fact of the cowardice the current president has shown toward other self proclaimed diplomats ie Pelosi and company going to Syria. As mush as I like Mr. Bush, I think it's time for him come on home to Texas where he belongs.

This Video Needs To Get Out There!!!

I know it's been a while, school will do that to ya, but I couldn't let this video I stumbled upon go without posting it.

In my view, this is worse than hanging out with Ayers. This Odinga character fomented violence as recently as last year and was endorsed by Obama. Obama may also actually be in violation of the Logan Act. Though I will have to read the details of that law. If I'm wrong I'll post on the specifics of it later. If not, well...

Are we about to elect a criminal to the presidency?

Re: Obama Wants Debate

What if Obama shows up Friday night and McCain doesn't? McCain will have been in Washington for 2 days putting politics aside and looking like the leader that he his. Won't that be "check"? What will Obama's response be then? "He's ducking me?" "He doesn't really want an open debate?" All McCain has to do is sit back and let Obama and Slow Joe talk about higher taxes no energy solutions as a cure for the problem. This may be "check" and "mate".

Let's just hope McCain handles himself the right way this week. This could be one of the defining moments in the campaign.

What Will Obama Do?

Thanks to Ike and my Latin professor, I haven't been able to blog much lately. Having said that, I need to weigh in on the breaking news about Senator McCain suspending his campaign. This move says one thing. Leadership! This has been the theme of his political career. Country First! That's leadership we can believe in. Sometimes reform, country and leadership are much more important than "change we can believe in". Especially when no on knows what that change is. I think we'll know what kind of change Obama stands for by the end of he week.

Here's the official campaign statement from McCain.

John McCain's Remarks on the Economic Crisis
New York, NY
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.

Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.

It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration's proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.

Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.

I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night's debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.

I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.

Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.

'Nuf said.

Post Hurricane Blogging

Whew, I finally took down my last piece of plywood and finally started getting my front yard cleaned up. The back yard is still flooded. What a mess. If you've never lived through a hurricane I suggest you try it. Just kidding. It was an experience though and I'll never forget the preparation, the sleeplessness and clean up. Oh and did I mention that I still don't have power and I'm running the fans and the computer off of a generator until at least Tuesday. Man it's hot. I will say that I'm better off than some other people around Houston. Please pray for them, they have a much bigger task at hand than I do.

So now you know why there's been a lack of blog posts this past week. Don't worry, I should be in full swing by tomorrow.

Something Non-Political

Why is it that over the summer vacation my kids don't get sick, but one day into the third week of the school year my oldest son has a 103 degree fever and is vomiting through the night?

I have one guess. Kids are little germ factories and can't keep their hands to themselves.

Is The Leftoshpere Beginning To See The Light?

Ok, so it's not the entire leftoshpere but, NoQuarterUSA is a pretty big deal to a lot of Hillary supporters. I like to occasionally visit the lefty blogs just to see how those crazy kids are doing.

Much to my surprise, or maybe not, I stumbled across a young blogger named SoldierforHillary. One of her posts is a video rant about the lopsided coverage of Senator Obama versus Governor Palin and Senator McCain. I'm sure this is a sentiment that has been carried over from the lopsided coverage while Senator Clinton was running. Now I may not agree with 90% of soldierforhillary's positions, it's refreshing to see people from the other side of the isle calling the Obama communications team, or as most people know them by, the MSM, out on their b.s.

Keep it up SoldierforHillary. We may not always agree but at least you can now feel our pain when it comes to the MSM bias.

Here's a link to her post.

Do They Really Want To Go There?

Yesterday Senator Obama suggested that Governor Palin and Senator McCain are just "talking" about change when they talk about killing earmarks, even though Governors don't have anything to do with Federal earmarks and Senator McCain has never, ever requested an earmark. Governor Palin just had a simple response, "does he really want to go there", with his over $750 million in earmarks since he's been in the Senate. He's only been there 3 1/2 years, 2 of which he was campaigning for president. So how much time did he really devote to "legislating"? 1 1/2 years? That's a lot of pork in such a short time. How long has Senator McCain been in the senate/house? 26 years? $0 of pork requested. That's a lot of time for no pork.

Today CNN has come out with yet another smear of Sarah. This time it's about her religion and the fact that she may be "too religious". Seriously? Do they really want to go there with the whole religion thing? Need we remind them of the Jeremiah Wright issue? It may be time to bring it back up and get that hate filled story out there again.

Let the mud fly!

Don't Lose Focus On The Issues!

I know we're all excited about Sarah Palin. I'm even caught up in Sarahmania (sorry Sen. Obama). However, we can't lose focus on what Senator McCain calls the transcendent issue of our generation, the war on terror. My grandmother sends me things from time to time via email. Most of the time it's cute little things any grandmother would send, but sometimes she sends some good stuff.
Enjoy...

This needs to be embedded on blog posts, linked in emails, whatever it takes to make it to every house in America.

This Is What's Driving The Left Crazy

Until now Obama thought he had the only young family and had even tried to use it to his advantage, just look at the Access Holywood appearance. I know, he says it was a mistake. But when has a Dem ever done anything like that by mistake.

In comes Sarah Palin and her family. As big as they get and from a small town in America. They have problems just like us and they try their best to deal with them just like us. They pray about it and face them head on. This drives the MSM (the media wing o the Obama camp as Hugh Hewitt has now dubbed them) crazy. Then there's the giant family gathering on the stage at the end of the RNC. Between them, John and Sarah have 12 kids, all of them very photogenic and they look extremely comfortable on that stage. Check out this video. It's titled "Piper Palin Fro President". Yes I know that's suppose to be a cute theme, but I took something else away from it. When I saw how natural they looked and then thought about how the country, not the angry moon bats like Gloria Steinem, have welcomed them into their hearts and homes, I can't help but think that this is the main reason Obama's running scarred and trying everything he can to smear these folks. Funny thing is, it's only making him look worse and team McCain/Palin look better for taking the high road. If I were Obama I would call my communications director Steve Capus over at NBC and tell him to knock it off he's not helping the situation. The more they attack, the more real Americans will dig in their heals and fight for McCain/Palin.

Here's the video...

Michelle Malkin Rules!

I am a frequent reader of Michelle Malkin and on more than one occasion she has delivered gold. Today she has done exactly that. Here's an article she put together about Obama's "community organizer" days.  She also turned me on to this little nugget from IBD editorial page that outlines Obama's "Public Allies" connection.  The people are as radical as they come and they try to cover it up by acting like a nice youth educational program.  I smell socialism.

 They're also here and here.

My Take On Obama Being On O'Reilly

So a friend of mine asked me today about the Obama appearance on O'Reilly last night. I haven't seen it yet actually (been in school all day). I do have my thoughts on why he chose of all nights, last night. Here's my response to him...

Funny how that works eh. Remember last week? John McCain made a 30 second add congratulating Obama and ran it only after his speech that night. What's even funnier you ask? Turns out McCain's speech got higher ratings than Obama's did. This attention Mac & Sarah are getting is driving that narcissist (sic) crazy, so what does he do? He goes on O'Reilly and screams look at me look at me! Pathetic.

Call me crazy but I think the corner was being approached a couple of weeks before Palin and then when she was announced the corner got turned and that was all she wrote. (no pun intended)  Now the Obama's and the Media, on in the same really, have no idea how to respond and their grasping at anything, anything to run Sarah down. Sad thing is, the more focus they try to put on her the higher her star rises and the harder it's gonna get for them to dig themselves out of the whole they've dug.

Thougts on The McCain Speech

Very typical McCain, serious, somber substantive but unlike other speeches, where he's not comfortable anyway, he was able to work up the crowd and himself toward the end. Anyone that's watched him over the years knows that this is not how he usually delivers a speech, but hey overall I thought it was great and it definitely was his best speech of the campaign. I only hope it gets better from here. You know what? I think it will.

One last note. Is it me or does he seem to be much more energized and ready to sprint this to the finish line. I think Sarah Palin was that spark that the party and, now that I've seen Mac tonight, what he needed to get it going strong and energize us all.

More Fun With Emails

Well, here's another email from one my mutual friends. Again, I have not edited it other than the language (man those lefties just can't watch their mouth). He rambles mainly about McCain's judgment and this was suppose to be his response to the Ayers, Wright, Phleger etc issue. He gets very defensive and even suggests that I said Obama was a terrorist for hanging out with Ayers. No. I said he had poor judgment for hanging out with a terrorist.

Enjoy...
if you want to talk about judgement lets talk about mccains choice for chief economic advisor...or mccains choice of running mate (after meeing only twice)...ive said it before and ill say it again...i think the most important job of the prez is to pick the right people for the right positions and i just continue to feel less comfortable with a mccain presidency as i learn more about examples of him choosing people that i dont think are good selections... honestly...i dont know enough about the obama-ayers relationship to comment on whether or not they are close friends...but i doubt they are...at the very least because it would be bad for his political aspirations even if obama truly thought ayers was justified in his actions...but lets actually skip over all this "obama is a terrorist because he knows a guy who was a terrorist" bs...its insulting to me that you think i might believe it...please tell me what obama has done to give america (or at least some of it) the idea that he could be a terrorist...because that is what you are implying... frankly im sick of defending obama against these (in my opinion) outrageous attacks...to me this ayers relationship does not matter because i have confidence in my preferred candidate...i dont think obamas going to fool the country into electing him president and then in january after inauguration peel off his nice-guy mask and hand this country over to people who want to destroy it...his story is an inspirational one and a selfless one and to me it inspires confidence that this guy is someone who can meet a challenge head on and inspire people who wouldnt ordinarily work together to get the job done for the common good...im sorry that your candidate apparently doesnt do the same for you since you spend so much time attacking mine instead of praising yours... re: nuclear iran...bidens right...why do the us and israel get to say "i know we have nukes but you cant develop nuclear technology cuz...um...we say so" anyway?...the "do as we say and not as we do" approach has p*#@>d off a lot of people the last 8 years and really for a lot longer than that...i mean...remember a couple weeks again when the white house was saying "you cant just go into another nation and start a war" in regards to russias invasion of georgia?...how ridiculous and oblivious... re: palin...thats fine that she talks/walks the pro-life talk/walk...i have no problem with her having an opinion about abortion...and im not even sure where this came from...but at least youre praising a republican candidate instead of simply attacking a republican one...its refreshing to see that...i do have a question though...(vulgarity omited)
Is it me or do they just not care to find out anything about their candidate. All they seem to know is that he's going to part the waters and heal the planet. If Obama wins this guy's going to be in for a rude awakening.

One last note. This guy actually believes that the terrorists actions is out fault because of the last 8 years? What about the last thirty starting with the Disgraceful Carter administration.
