I received an email earlier today from a worried Obama supporter. Much like most Obama supporters they don't know much about what he stands for, just that he stands for change. I had to do a little editing for language and other references but I'll leave his original grammar and spelling alone. They just can't control themselves...
while theres really no point in debating whether or not obamas speech was a good one with the likes of aaron and jason (i think it was...you think it wasnt...well never agree) i will say that when he had that quote about getting us off foreign oil in 10 years i was like "wiskey tango foxtrott?!?"...
obama HAD TO "attack" mccain and point out the clear differences between the two platforms...its the dem convention...the fact that youre acting surprised is ridiculous and unconvincing...what do you think mccain will do next thursday?...these two candidates have taken the high road all along and its been refreshing...these arent attacks...attacks are when you call out someone personally...the closest thing i saw to an attack was when obama suggested that mccain might not have the temperament required to effectively manage foreign policy...i wasnt a big fan of that but its not the first time weve heard the idea that mccain loses his temper somewhat easily when he doesnt get his way...which isnt a good quality to have in a world leader...so it was relevant and not a complete personal attack...in my opinion...
i just hope this "high road" approach holds through november...i suspect it wont thanks to special interest groups...but its nice to see for the time being...
and dont worry aaron...youll have plenty of time to see some heads-up debating by these two...its a little puzzling that obama didnt take him up on this offer but i think youll see some sort of agreement with a combination of moderated debates and townhall meetings...and how fun will it be to watch the veep debates?...thatll be just a bit lopsided in our favor...
and finally...re: palin as veep...how thinly veiled is this "strategic" move?...does mccain really think that the feminists who wanted hillary in the oval office are actually going to vote for palin just because shes a woman?...i mean...obama and hillary had nearly identical platforms...so at that point it probably did come down to the fact that she was a woman for the feminists...but palin is against a womans right to choose and is not in favor of legislation specifying women having the right to equal pay for equal work...really?...oh yeah...and now this lady is one heart attack (god forbid) away from running the country?...really?...
Other than the occasionally fun email like this from him, he's actually a pretty cool guy. I guess we all have lovable lefties as friends. All we can do it just smile and try to act/talk like an adult to them and hope that some day they see the light.
